The purpose of a building permit is to ensure national, regional and local safety standards are met, and that all work is completed according to applicable building code. Building permits are required for many remodeling or home improvement projects

Determining which home improvement projects require a building permit is easy with our Central Permit Center. You can apply online or in person:

City Hall
555 Santa Clara Street
Second Floor
Vallejo, CA 94590
Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Phone: (707) 648-4328

When you make an application we'll need to know details about the type of work you plan to carry out, the number of square feet involved, and whether you or a contractor are going to do the work.

The cost of the building permit will be based on the type of work, the number of inspections required, and the square feet of the improvement project.

Each permit is active for 180 days between inspections.
