Animal Care Services

PetsThe City of Vallejo hires third party contractors to provide Animal Care Services mandated by the State of California. Each contractor provides key deliverables to the City of Vallejo and its residents. The City pays over $1 million annually for animal care services and encourages residents to get their animals vaccinated and spayed or neutered to help reduce this number. Additionally, the City of Vallejo recommends residents get their animals microchipped.

Don’t forget… Spaying or Neutering is important too!

Spaying or neutering is good for your pet. Altering your animal reduces the incidence of a number of health problems that can be difficult or expensive to treat and lets him live a longer, healthier life. In addition, spaying or neutering your pet makes him a better, more affectionate companion. Unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems (such as running away, displaying nervous behavior, or incessant crying) than those pets who have been spayed or neutered. More information is available from the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States.

Your veterinarian can explain spay and neuter procedures to you and discuss with you the best age to sterilize your pet.  The Solano County Animal Shelter provides low-cost spay and neuter services for dogs and cats.  A local low-cost spay and neuter facility will be available mid-2014.  Your tax dollars will help fund 1,600 low cost spay and neuters through the Participatory Budgeting program.
