Used Oil Recycling

Improper disposal of motor or cooking oil can pollute the City’s water systems, clog or damage pipes, and harm the environment.

It is illegal to dispose of used motor oil and filters in the garbage or pour them down the drains. Instead, they must be taken to a certified collection center or collected through Vallejo’s curbside used oil and filter collection service.

Curbside Collection

Residential customers can place used motor or cooking oil next to their carts for pickup on their regular collection day. Oil jugs are provided free of charge by Recology Vallejo. Call (707) 552-3100 to request a used oil container.

How to Set Out Used Oil & Filters for Curbside Collection

Proper preparation helps ensure safe and effective recycling of your used motor oil and oil filters:

  1. Drain your used oil filters thoroughly before placing them into the oil filter bag.

  2. Hang the bag from the neck of your used oil jug.

  3. Place the oil jug and filter bag next to your garbage cart on collection day—not inside it!

Residents may recycle up to two gallons of used oil per week. A new oil jug and/or filter bag will be left at the curb for your next oil change.
