Project Room Key

Project Room Key

About Project Room Key:
Project Room key is a collaborative partnership between the cities of Vallejo and Benicia to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in the Vallejo/Benicia area. It provides temporary shelter for the most at-risk people who don't have a home to stay in to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Project Room Key aims to protect high-risk individuals and prevent the spread of the highly-contagious virus in our community. By providing temporary shelter to these individuals, we can help to safeguard the capacity of our local hospitals, fire and police departments, and medical teams.

* As of November 2020, Project Room Key is full and no longer able to accept new participants. If you are someone you know is in need of shelter or other assistance, please use the following resources:

WHY IS PROJECT ROOM KEY IMPORTANT TO MY COMMUNITY DURING THE COVID-19 HEALTH CRISIS?

Project Room Key protects the most vulnerable people in our community, the homeless and unsheltered, by slowing the spread of the disease among these populations and to others in the community. Project Room Key participants have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have underlying health conditions that place them at higher risk for contraction of the disease.

WHO WILL BE STAYING AT THE HOTELS/MOTELS?

Homeless and unsheltered individuals who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are at an increased risk for contracting the disease due to underlying health conditions will be participants in Project Room Key.

HOW DOES SOMEONE QUALIFY FOR PROJECT ROOM KEY?

The City of Vallejo outreach team has established contact with many individuals before the start of the program to focus on building relationships with potential participants. Resource Connect Solano (RCS) has conducted phone outreach to homeless individuals with the highest risks for COVID-19 complications. RCS provides the names and contact information to the lead contact at the City of Vallejo. The lead then works closely with hotels, and community partners to do an additional health assessment with local health partners. Then they refer the participant for an immediate intake into the program.
