City Manager Bio

Greg Nyhoff On January 22, 2018, Greg Nyhoff was appointed as the City Manager for the City of Vallejo. He brings to this position a wealth of knowledge and experience with over 31-years of public administration, with 23-years as city manager for municipalities in California, Colorado and Michigan. He has managed cities of various sizes and demographics.  From his first position in 1992 in a charming tourist town with a population of 2,300, to the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs where he worked for the City of Colorado Springs with a population of 400,000.  From Colorado he brought his passion for public service to California. He was City Manager in Modesto for six years. And most recently he was the City Manager for Oxnard, California. He has led full service organizations of 1,500 employees providing leadership to each of these communities.

Mr. Nyhoff takes pride in his work with City staff and community:  launching various programs between public safety and its residents; introducing internship opportunities for our young workforce; conducting organizational assessments and financial audits to insure financial stability and operational efficiencies; and initiating leadership development strategies for City staff with a focus on customer service.

Greg is described as enthusiastic, motivated, passionate and energetic. He has demonstrated experience in building strong relationships in diverse communities. Greg enjoys forming partnerships with those who want to make a positive impact. His main focus for Vallejo is to continue to build on its strong forward momentum to realize all that this City can be.  He plans to concentrate on economic development, job opportunity expansion for residents, business relations, and assisting with the City Council’s vision and priorities for this culturally rich community.

Mr. Nyhoff possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics. He has been recognized by the International City Manager’s Association (ICMA) for over 30-years’ service to municipalities. Greg has served on numerous Boards and Committees as he is committed to the improvement of his community and his profession. He has won several Excellence in Service awards recognizing this focus. He is currently serving as a Trustee for the California City Management Foundation. Greg and his wife Cindy have been married for over 36-years and are residents of Vallejo, making this their community. They enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and fly fishing, baseball and spending time with their three grown children and grandson.
